// about

Security is the difference between thinking you're secure and knowing it.

I'm a cybersecurity student and former intern at Tevora on the PCI Payments team, building real-world skills in security compliance, risk assessment and vulnerability management. I'm a Computer Information Systems major at Cal Poly Pomona (GPA 3.7, graduating May 2027), pursuing CompTIA Security+ with hands-on practice through TryHackMe.

I've deployed cloud infrastructure on AWS, scripted automation with Python, and completed the Deloitte Cyber Job Simulation on Forage. I'm passionate about protecting systems from evolving threats — whether through penetration testing, security operations, or GRC.

Secure, Scalable Cloud Infrastructure on AWS

Self-hosted private cloud storage

Two EC2 instances — a Windows Server 2019 backup node and an Ubuntu 22.04 host running Dockerized Nextcloud — locked down with IAM roles, IP whitelisting, UFW, Fail2Ban, ClamAV, Certbot (Let's Encrypt) certificates and usage alarms.

CloudWatch alarm graph for Windows Server CPU utilization
CloudWatch CPU-utilization alarm
Nextcloud login screen served over HTTPS
Nextcloud login over HTTPS
Nextcloud file browser running on the hardened Ubuntu EC2 host
Nextcloud files on the hardened Ubuntu host

What I did

  • Deployed Nextcloud on Ubuntu 22.04 with Apache, PHP and MariaDB.
  • End-to-end HTTPS with Certbot / Let's Encrypt on a free subdomain.
  • Hardened hosts with UFW, Fail2Ban brute-force protection and ClamAV scanning.
  • Security groups plus an IP allow-list so only whitelisted teammates could connect.
  • IAM groups for Admins, Developers and Testers on tiered least-privilege policies.
  • Python Lambda on a 5-minute CloudWatch Events schedule, verified through logs.
  • CloudWatch CPU-utilization alarm to flag resource abuse on the Windows node.

PCI DSS v4.0.1 Requirement 3.5 — Encryption vs Hashing Training Deck

Tevora — Payments Cybersecurity team

Training material on rendering stored PAN unreadable: keyed hashing (HMAC / CMAC / GMAC), truncation, tokenization and strong encryption, plus the March 2025 mandates — 3.5.1.1 keyed-hash and the 3.5.1.2 / 3.5.1.3 disk-encryption restrictions.

Abstract blue network mesh graphic representing risk and data landscape
Cardholder data landscape

What I did

  • Broke down the four approved methods for rendering PAN unreadable at rest.
  • Contrasted one-way keyed hashing with reversible strong encryption and key management duties.
  • Mapped the new March 2025 requirements to practical control changes for assessed entities.
